
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (かぐや姫の物語) is a 2013 Japanese animated historical fantasy film co-written for the screen and directed by Isao Takahata, based on The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, a 10th century Japanese literary tale. It was produced by Studio Ghibli for Nippon Television Network, Dentsu, Hakuhodo DYMP, Walt Disney Japan, Mitsubishi, Toho and KDDI, and distributed by Toho. It was released in Japan on November 23, 2013, distributed by Toho. The film was released in select theaters in North America on October 17, 2014.
