Atlantis: The Lost Empire is a 2001 American animated film created by Walt Disney Feature Animation and the first science fiction film in Disney's animated features canon and the 41st overall. The film was directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, produced by Don Hahn and written by Tab Murphy. The film premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California on June 3, 2001 and went into general release on June 15, 2001 by Walt Disney Pictures. The film was nominated for a number of awards, including seven Annie Awards and won Best Sound Editing at the 2002 Golden Reel Awards.
